So Sleepy
The boys got their PIC lines put in successfully, and they are now sleeping off all the excitement. The pic line insertion is pretty scary sounding, although they are standard. Basically the line that initially went trough their umbilical line is only good for 7-10 days, and the PIC line will remain in place until they are up to full feedings. The PIC line goes in like a regular I.V. but travels through the body to right next to the heart, so it is a pretty delicate procedure. Elliot received his in his arm, and Oliver got his put into his leg. Basically they have four chances for insertion, two arms and two legs, but if they are unsuccessful with the limbs, they enter through the head, and as I am sure you can imagine, the thought of a line going directly into our boys' head terrified us. Thankfully the limbs were a great success.
